Common Cartridge → Docsify v0.9.0 Beta

Convert a Common Cartridge (.imscc) export to flat Markdown pages for Docsify or Docsify-This

Docsify-This and Docsify turn a folder of plain Markdown files into a browsable site – no build step, no database, no web server required. This tool takes your LMS course out of Canvas, Moodle, Brightspace, or Blackboard and converts it to exactly that: flat Markdown files, a shared images/ folder, and a ready-to-use _sidebar.md navigation file, generated automatically every time.

There's no separate "export mode" to choose – every conversion produces the same portable, shortcode-free Markdown, ready to drop into an existing Docsify or Docsify-This site.

Convert one of your own courses and browse the resulting Markdown files and images directly – no Docsify installation needed to see what carries over. Or start with a real example: Digital Animation course , as displayed by Docsify-This

Any single page can be displayed without the sidebar – a good fit for embedding one lesson via an iframe. For example: this single lesson page from the Digital Animation course

New to Docsify-This? The project site covers publishing Markdown with no build step or install.

Removes manual ordering prefixes (e.g. "1 Introduction" → "Introduction", "Module 2 - Basics" → "Basics") – redundant since the generated filename already carries the ordering. Omit non-image binary files from web_resources/ – keeps the ZIP small. You can manually copy these files after import. By default, images embedded in page content are downloaded and included in the ZIP under images/. Enable this to keep original URLs instead – images still display, but from their remote source.

A _sidebar.md navigation file is always generated automatically – it isn't a separate option, since a Docsify site with no sidebar has little navigational value.

What exactly does this do?

It's a self-contained PHP web app running on the server. You upload a Common Cartridge .imscc export, it parses the module structure and converts wiki page content to Markdown, then hands you back a ZIP ready to drop into a Docsify or Docsify-This site.

What's converted?

  1. Every course page → one flat .md file at the root of the ZIP, no nested folders and no frontmatter – Docsify reads the title straight from the page's first heading
  2. Course modules → grouped in _sidebar.md under a bold module label, or flattened to a single link when a module has only one page
  3. Images and attachments → collected into shared images/ and files/ folders, with course-wide unique filenames
  4. Vimeo and YouTube embeds → a real <iframe>, no Docsify plugin required
  5. A _sidebar.md navigation file, generated automatically on every conversion

What's not included?
Quizzes, discussions, and assignments have no equivalent in a flat Markdown site and are not included. A full count appears in conversion-notes.txt in the ZIP.

Can I embed a single page elsewhere?
Yes – each page's filename becomes its route, so linking straight to #/module-02-04-a7-walk-cycle (matching module-02-04-a7-walk-cycle.md in the ZIP) opens just that page. Leave out sidebar=true and loadSidebar= for a content-only view with no navigation chrome, ready to drop into an iframe.

What happens to your file?
The .imscc is extracted to a server temp directory, parsed, converted, and packaged. The temp files are immediately deleted after the ZIP is streamed to your browser – nothing is stored on the server.

Uploaded files are processed in a temporary directory and deleted immediately after conversion. Nothing is permanently stored on the server.
